Project Logbook Today you will be updating the logbook for ten or so minutes….. Then -
Planning • In order to build a circuit you will need to plan where the components will go • You should have a picture of each component in your project • Now obtain a picture of your building medium, either strip board or breadboard • Now work out where the components will have to be placed in order to follow the circuit diagram
Breadboard A breadboard is a plastic unit that you can use to create prototypes of your circuits when they are in the experimental stage. No soldering is required, so it is easy to move components around if you need to - the component leads are simply pushed into the holes in the breadboard.
Breadboard The board has connectors inside in rows and columns The two sides of the board are isolated by a groove that allows the placement of integrated circuits (ICs), like the 555 timer Flying leads are leads that go to an from the board to other components like the battery or loud speaker
Stripboard Stripboard is similar in design to breadboard, it has a regular matrix of holes for component leads, arranged into parallel copper tracks. The difference is that the components must be soldered to the tracks, so that you can use stripboard to produce the final circuit.
Stripboard Always design your stripboard layout on paper before you attempt any soldering! A grid such as the Stripboard Layout Planning Sheet which you can download Remember to sketch your components to the same scale as the planning sheet (count holes)
The Skills Your skills will be in placing components in the right position to mimic what is happening in the circuit diagram, with either method Noticing crossed wires and where tracks are connected to each other Planning is all – fail to plan; plan to fail!!!!!
Finally • Thanks for watching and I will be providing “one to one” guidance for those with any problems – just come and see me Enjoy! Jim
