Grading Policies • Academic Grades • Determined through successful completions of formal standards-based assessments, such as quizzes, on-demand writing assignments, designated homework assignments, and a bulk homework • Grades of A, B, C, D or F (traditional 10% scale) • Indicator of ability to meet grade level demands • Late work will be accepted towards Academic Grade for reduced credit • After absences, students have one extra class day to turn in work Work Habits Grades • Class work and Homework • Receives grades of O, G, S, N, U • Opportunity to practice for mastery • These HW assignments are given so students are able to successfully pass state standards-based assessments • Excellent indicators of success • No late work unless absent. (Students still need to complete this work even if it shows “missing” in Work Habits. You never know…I may let them use their HW or notes for a quiz) • After an absence, students have one extra class day to turn in work
Organization Checks • Beginning of the week on an Odd day (Monday or Tuesday). • Graded with 0 to 5 points. The score is placed in Work Habits. • Checklist includes: • Homework written in planner. • Graded or finished papers placed behind dividers/Folders • No loose papers in binder or backpack. • Silent Reading book in backpack
Supporting your Student at Home • Check their planners & on Sunday’s ask if they’re ready for their organization check for the week • Provide designated homework time • Ask specific questions about their day and give them lots of time to respond (sometimes it takes a while to get them going) • Talk about school, education, and their future. • Ability to access a computer to assist in homework when needed (Public library have computers available for free)
When Your Child Needs More Support • Teacher sign planner; Parent Checks • Blue Slip • Regular e-mail contact • Parent/Student/Teacher Meeting • Utilize Support Staff
