Two Front War • Eastern Front (Germany vs. Russia) • Western Front (Germany vs. Britain, France and U.S.) • When? : September 1st, 1939- May 8, 1945 • Western Front Action begins: May 10th when Germany invades Belgium, The Netherland and Luxembourg • Eastern Front Action begins: June 1941 with Operation Barbarossa/ German invasion of the USSR

  4. The Pacific Theatre • Where? : Pacific Ocean and Southeast Asia!

  5. Island War • Fought between multiple Island and over seas • When? : Historians have debated the start of the Pacific Theatre • Options • September 1931: Japan Invades China • July 1937: Start of Second Sino-Japanese War (Japan vs. China) • December 7&8 1941: Japan invades Thailand, British Malaya and Attacks Pearl Harbor • The Winner! December 7&8 1941

  6. The Mediterranean and Middle East Theatre! • Where? : Africa, The Middle East and Italy!

When? : June 1940- May 1945 • Italy Started the fighting around Italy • Wanted a larger Roman Empire • Germany sought land in Africa and the Middle East to attack Russia from the South • Early battles were successful for Germany under the leadership of Erwin Rommel “The Desert Fox” • By 1944 he was unable to lead the forces and the theatre became unsuccessful for Germany and Italy
