Program established to assist United States Air Force (Airborne Accessories Directorate) in development and implementation of replacement repair and overhaul procedures for hydraulic actuators across multiple weapon systems.
Phase 1 - TO and Drawing Review, Database Development, Test Requirement Development • 124 Air Force Technical Orders Reviewed • 100% complete • 409 Engineering Drawings Reviewed • 34.8% complete • 251 Chrome plated parts and 288 additional potentially chrome plated parts have been identified.
Phase 2 - Material, Rig, and Flight Testing • Flight Control Actuators • 6 candidate items selected • 4 OEMs (Parker, Lockheed, Dowty, Boeing) • Utility Actuators • Still being evaluated
Phase 2 - Material, Rig, and Flight Testing • Fatigue failures of B-1 Horizontal Stabilizer Actuator Forward Piston have occurred • Boeing has developed a new design for the Horizontal Stabilizer Actuator Forward Piston • Functional and life cycle testing on the new actuator piston design is required • HVOF coatings will be used in lieu of chrome plate on rod and head ODs of Forward and Aft Piston test articles • Forward piston fatigue and actuator endurance spectra will be developed as the project proceeds
Phase 3 - Test Evaluation • Results of Testing will be evaluated and a solution finalized.
Phase 4 - Implementation • The solution developed in Evaluation will be implemented.
