  1. The New Faces Set to Appear in the Spurs Organization This offseason has been one for the record books! The San Antonio Spurs organization said farewell to one of their greatest players in their franchise, Tim Duncan. After Duncan’s retirement, many fans and critics were skeptical as to whether who would replace Duncan’s spot. The Spurs are not in danger. Thankfully, they have Pau Gasol who recently signed with the team to replace Duncan’s position as the main defender of the paint. Even though the Spurs have found a temporary player to fill in the center position, it’s still not the same without Duncan. Gasol isn’t the only new face in the Spurs. Monty Williams is expected to sign with the team and become the newest addition to the coaching staff. Williams' wife, Ingrid Williams, passed away in a car accident in February. Williams then took a leave of absence from the Oklahoma City Thunder. Williams is not only looking towards a new beginning in his life, but as well as becoming a contributing factor for whichever team he decides to coach for, which could possibly be the Spurs. The specifics of what role Williams would fill and how much time he could commit have not yet been determined, but sources say San Antonio has opened the door to either a coaching and player- development role or a front-office position or a hybrid depending on what he prefers.

  2. Williams has had his fair share of success when he was previously the head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans. He took such a young and raw-talented team to the playoffs in 2015 which was the franchise’s first appearance in many years. Not to mention, he had the opportunity of working with superstars like Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook while being a part of the coaching staff with the Thunder. No matter which position Williams decides to choose to work for in the Spurs organization, he’ll have an unlimited amount of support system and exceptional leadership from the coaching staff and front office. Not only is Williams expected to be a new face in the Spurs organization, but as well as David Lee, who is a well-rounded big man the Spurs need at this point. The Spurs have signed the two-time all-star to a two-year deal with the second year being an option for Lee to return to the team or not. He is one of three N.B.A. players to total at least 10,000 points, 6,000 rebounds and 1,500 assists over the last 10 seasons along with the current Spur Pau Gasol and the former Spurs forward Tim Duncan. Lee, 33, won an N.B.A. championship with the Golden State Warriors in 2015. He has managed to average 14.2 points, 9.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists over an 11-year career that began with the New York Knicks. Lee started with the Boston Celtics last season, before being waived by the team in February and eventually landing a spot with the Dallas Mavericks. As a forward and center, Lee finished last season with the Dallas Mavericks, averaging 8.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists.

  3. Lee’s experience in the playoffs is what the Spurs need, a player who is capable of doing the dirty work and getting the job done in order to win. Not to mention, Lee knows what it’s like to be a part of winning team and what it takes to achieve the goal of winning a championship. Lee has a lot of potential and something to look forward to as he joins one of the most prolific teams in the N.B.A. He may not be a starter for the team, but the organization is sure they can fit him in somewhere he can produce efficient results. With Lee and Williams being the newest additions to the Spurs organization, things aren’t looking so bad after all for the team. Even though they lost the biggest star in the league, the team is very well- equipped as far as having all-star players on their roster. People can’t forget the Spurs are still likely to make a lot of noise in the western conference with two veteran players in Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili leading the team. As well as their head coach, Gregg Popovich and the rest of the young and talented players like Kawhi Leonard, Danny Green and Lamarcus Aldridge. Not everything is going wrong for the Spurs, as a matter of fact it seems as if they’re making all the right moves this offseason in order to get them far in the playoffs.
