Seen 3rd from left is Mr. Chandrasekaran, District Collector and Chairman of DCG who inaugurated the Sub-Centre The launching of the Sub-Centre is a historic development in extending the outreach and capacity building at the local level for delivering the services developed by the National APELL Centre Headquarted in NSC, Mumbai. It marks success of the NAC initiative to develop on-going co-operation among the i) District Crisis Group (statutorily set up on the Model of APELL Co-ordinating Group), ii) State Factory Inspectorate, iii) Tuticorin Port Trust, iv) Tuticorin Plant of the Heavy Water Board recognized for its excellent safety performance and winner of the NSCI top Safety Award; and v) other Industrial Units in the Area. The technical services developed by the NAC for Tuticorin are tailor-made to address the local issues identified during the review of the on-site Emergency Plans of the individual units in the Area and developing an integrated off-site Emergency Plan. The activities of the Sub-Centre will be funded by local industry, while the technical back up will be provided by the NAC. The 2-day Workshop on Strengthening Chemical Emergency Preparedness was the first tailor-made activity conducted along with this function.
