HISTORY • Replaces and extends the old Pre-Olympic Congresses before each Summer Olympic Games • Fully inclusive - all major sport and exercise science partners • First new-format ICSEMIS hosted by Guangzhou, China in 2008

MAIN THEME • ‘Sport … Inspiring a learning legacy’ • Echoes the inspiration theme used in the UK Olympic Games bid • The “knowledge Olympics”
OBJECTIVES • To celebrate sport sciences across the UK and internationally • To exchange sport science, clinical and pedagogic information • To promote education about science, education and medicine in sport • To encourage multi-disciplinary approaches • To network amongst researchers, pedagogues, clinicians and practitioners • To present cutting edge research and developments • To secure public engagement by young people and ordinary members of our communities
AUDIENCE • c. 5,000 delegates: researchers, professionals, practitioners, students • Largest global multidisciplinary convention of its type • Every professional sector and all international scientific and scholarly associations associated with sport, physical education, exercise and physical activity • E.g. BASES 2012 embedded in the programme
