  1. Embedding Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship in the Primary Curriculum: A Creative Approach Pip McCormack London South Bank University

  2. ‘Perhaps as educators, we could usefully address how we can foster learner creativity, such that the potentially damaging cultural and environmental impact of generativity – creativity- is minimised, and positive impact maximised. In other words, we could consider how we might encourage a trusteeship – orientated attitude towards using our creativity wisely’ Craft, A. (2008) ‘Tensions in Creativity and Education’ in Creativity, Wisdom and Trusteeship (Eds. Craft, Gardner and Claxton)

  3. Context • London South Bank University is situated in an inner city environment, in an area of social deprivation • Education department’s core values include a strong commitment to equality and celebrating diversity • The project built on other units of LSBU course such as Equality, Inclusion and Citizenship, the foundation subjects (Geography, RE etc), Science and Professional Studies

  11. Year 6 (10 and 11 year olds)Pollution of habitats, individual responsibility, recycling and reducing paper use

  13. Workshop task – please work in phase groups • In groups of about 4 develop a medium term plan for a series of lessons that would lead to the making of a short animated film on issues related to ESD or GC – include cross-curricular links or links to whole school approach • You can use the template provided or plain paper • Be prepared to feed back/share ideas in 20/25 minutes

  14. Key points to feedback to conference • What have we learnt? • What are the challenges? • How can we move forward? • Where would projects like this fit in our school curriculum? • Do we need inset/ professional development? • In what ways is this approach helpful? • How practical is this approach?
