  5. Classroom Routines Classroom Routines Morning: Put away schoolbags, coats, lunches. Put homework and notes in the mailboxes.   7. Homework Homework will be assigned Monday thru Thursday nights. Typically, homework will be Reading, a Math assignment, and a Language Arts assignment, Every night, your child should be practicing Math Facts. Each student is expected to read for at least 15-30 minutes every night (Including weekends) and to fill in his/her Reading Log correctly. Please remember to complete the bottom of each page as your child completes the page. Homework is the student’s responsibility! Please try to set up a routine to help your child be successful in completing and returning homework. - designate a homework place- make sure they are working in a positive environment - set a consistent time to do homework so that it does not become rushed and stressful - remind your child to put his/her homework back into the Take Home folder in his/her bincer when finished so that it does not get lost/ruined If homework is not completed, your child will be required to complete it during our C/E time or Recess time.

  8. Notes from home…. Please remember to send in notes for the following reasons: - Walkers/Car riders– one note for the year if consistent • Early dismissal • Late excuses • Change in dismissal **ALWAYS call the office with changes during the day! **Even if you email me, you must contact the office to ensure that your message is received.

  9. Curriculum Language Arts: Project Read, Reading Workshop, Handwriting Without Tears Math: Investigations, Tools for Success Science: Rocks and Minerals, Butterflies, Seeds to Snacks Social Studies – Communities, Native Americans

  10. Encore (Special) Schedule • We will be rotating our Encore classes on a 12 day cycle. The cycle is on my website. • Our Encore classes will be from 2:40 – 3:30 each day. • Encore classes: Art, Music, Physical Education, Library, Guidance When in doubt – wear sneakers!

  11. Parties and Field Trips Halloween, Winter Holiday, Valentine’s Dayl Birthdays – Please do not send in edible treats for birthdays. Our district is enforcing a healthy habit policy and to support this policy, we will not be celebrating birthdays with sweet treats. ** We will acknowledge birthdays in our classroom. Field Trips/Special Events: Will be determined during the year and be related to what we are learning in class. Notes and permission slips will be sent home in advance. Possible trips for this year: - Tyler Arboretum - Walking Tour of Media - Hillside Farm - Media Theater **If you would like to be able to chaperone a trip or volunteer to work with our class, you MUST be registered. Information is on our website regarding how to do this.

  12. 2nd Grade Major Events/Projects(More info will be coming as we get closer to the events.) • Community Day Students will present information, songs and poems while wearing costumes in the auditorium. Students bring in a building constructed for the class town. • Living History Students present their biography research information in costume.

  13. Conferences Conference sign ups will be made available on line. Please look for information regarding how to sign up for a time that is convenient for you. Evening Conferences are limited. Please only sign up for them if you are unable to attend another time. I

  14. Progress Reports Progress Reports will be sent home three times during the school year. Please remember to sign the Progress Report Envelope and return the envelope only the next day.

  15. Other Info…… Scholastic Book Orders: Order forms will be sent home during most months. If you want to order books, you can do so two different ways: 1. Send in the order with a CHECK made out to Scholastic Book Club on or before the due date. 2. Order your books directly on line. For each online order, we receive a free book for our classroom. This is the best way to order your books. Our class access code is GWQQR. Books usually take about 2 to 2 ½ weeks to come in once I order them. Snacks: Your child may bring in a HEALTHY snack to eat while we are working. Healthy snacks may include: pretzels, crackers, fruit, granola bars, carrot or celery sticks. Please do not send in any type of candy, cookies, fruit cups with juice, or muffins. No peanut products are permitted due to allergies. Also – please do not send in any juices or flavored waters. The students may get drinks in our room or bring a water bottle with a pop up top/straw.
