Life • She was born on June,23 1940 in Clarksville, Tennessee • She was the 20th child of 22 children in her family. • When she was 4 years old she got a disease called Polio. • 5’11” 130 lbs.
obstacles Polio • It can damage the nervous system. • It can also cause paralysis. • So Polio caused a lot of stress and hard work on her legs, which made it painful for her to run. • But she dealt with the pain and did what she dreamed, to run.
Why didn’t she give up? • Running is what she loved doing . • She felt it was what she was meant to do. • She fought through the races and became very famous.
