Cell Cycle & Mitosis IAN pg. 87 Objective:Identify and Define the parts of the Cell Cycle & Mitosis using notes, collaboration, readings & diagrams. MAIN IDEAS 1. Mitosis 2. Interphase 3. Prophase 4. Metaphase 5. Anaphase 6. Telophase 7. Cytokinesis
I. EukaryoticCell Cycle(2 Main Phases) A. Interphase(3 Parts) 1. Normal cell growth & function, Organelles duplicate = G1 2. DNA Replication = S 3. Preparation for Mitosis(Cell Division) = G2
B.Mitotic Phase and Cell Division(2 Parts) 1. Mitosis(4 Stages) a. Prophase – Nuclear Membrane disappears, DNA condenses to form chromosomes
b. Metaphase – chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell
c. Anaphase – Chromosomes split into individual Chromatids & are pulled to opposite ends of the cell.
d. Telophase – Nuclear membrane forms around chromosomes as DNA unwinds
2. Cytokinesis(Parent Cell divides) a. Cell membrane “pinches” together dividing cytoplasm (ANIMAL CELLS!) b. Cell Plate forms dividing cytoplasm (PLANT CELLS!) c. Produces 2 separate Daughter cells which are Genetically Identical (Same DNA!)
3.Mitosis & Cytokinesis are a very small part of the life of the cell.a.Cells spend most of the time in Interphase!
