  2. Essential Learnings • Students will understand geometry vocabulary and symbols. • Students will understand and be able to measure line segments.

  3. Vocabulary • Line segment – a portion of a line with two endpoints. • Congruent segment – two segments with the same measures. C D 5 cm A B 5 cm

  4. Example 1 • Find the measure of segment AC. 1.5 cm A AC = AB + BC AC = 1.5 + 2.25 B 2.25 cm AC = 3.75 cm C

  5. Example 2 • Find the measure of segment KL. 6.9 m JK=KL=LM J L M K x x x JK+ KL + LM= JM 3x = 6.9 x = 2.3 m KL = 2.3 m

  6. Example 3 • Find the value of the variable and YZ if Y is between X and Z. XY = 11n YZ = 9n-2 XZ = 5n+28 X Y Z XZ = XY+YZ YZ = 9n-2 5n+28 = 11n+(9n-2) YZ = 9(2)-2 5n+28 = 20n-2 30 = 15n YZ = 16 2 = n

Point, Lines, Plane • Read Section 1.1 in book and complete Worksheet 1.1. • Definitions are on the front of the WS with practice problems on section 1.1 on the back. • Solving Equations Practice – make sure you can solve these problems. If you are struggling, come to ICE tomorrow (8:00 – 9:00 a.m.) to get help.
