Application Software • There are 6 main types of computer software • Word processor-enter, edit, format and print documents for example letters,books, reports • Spreadsheet-enter,edit,calculate and format numbers for e.gbudgets,sales total, creating charts • Database-enter,edit,sort,query and report data for e.g club lists,librarycatalogues,mailing list • Desktop Publishing-layout text and graphics for publication for e.gnewsletter,magazines,leaflets • Graphics-create images such as a picture or a graph e.g diagrams, cliparts, presentation • Communication-send and receive data between computers e.g internet, email, file transfer sites

Backup • Making copies of data so that it could be used in the event of data loss • Why backup is important?-in case of damage to a computer or data loss, backup can easily help you in restoring your data • COPY or MOVE files to folders • Select a file and then drag it to the folder that you want to move to • Right click that file then select copy. Open a folder that you want to move it to and then right click and select paste • COPY, MOVE or DELETE files are functions that helps you to manage your file

Output • Output on a screed is called softcopy, while printed output is called hardcopy • There are 2 main types of screen • CRT(Cathode Ray Tube)-which consist of an electronic gun that fires electrons onto a glass surface. It takes a lot of space but it is cheap • LCD(Liquid Crystal Display)-which consist of a flat screen, used on a portable computers and desktop computers. It takes up much less room and is much expensive

  5. Device driver • Is the software a computer uses to control the operation of a device • UPS stands for Uninterrupted Power supply-it has enough battery power to give time to shut down a computer properly

  6. Video Conferencing • A type of technology that allows people from two or more locations to interact using video and audio. • Several advantages of video conferencing • Saves money on travel and accommodation costs. • Saves times. • Meetings can be arranged anytime.

  7. cont • Project manager- is the person responsible for accomplishing the stated project objectives • Software Engineer is the personwho study an application of engineering to the design, development, and maintenance of software.

  8. Pathname • The location of a file within its folders and sub folders • For example a pathname for a word doc called Graphics1 in the subfolder Assessments in the folder My Documents would be • C:\My Documents\Assessment\Graphics1.doc
