The Gospel is the power of God for those who believe: • Christ delivered me from the penalty of sin • The Spirit empowers me to overcome the power of sin/self/idols • The Father will set me free from the presence of sin and promises an inheritance for me that is better than anything in this world
You have been saved fromsomething for something
What is an idol? A created thing on which you depend to give you hope, significance, self-worth, or purpose
May the Lamb of God receive the just reward of His suffering!
John 1:12-13 • Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
Mark 10:45 • For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
Philippians 2:5-8 • In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very natureof a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man,he humbled himselfby becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!
Acts 2:42-47 • They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
John 13:34-35 • “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
John 17:15-19 • My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. 17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. 19 For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.
God’s people don’t have a mission; • God’s mission has a people
Communion Triads • What is God speaking to you? • Where do you need the gospel?
