Background • IkweziLukusa Rehabilitation and Sheltered Society (ILRSS) is one of the center providing a high standard of care for persons who are physically disabled.
ILRRS DEPARTMENTS • The ILRRS offers the beneficiaries rehabilitation and training in four courses: • Sewing • Craft • Leather work • Pottery
Sewing Department.This workshop teaches pattern-making, sewing with or without a machine, skills to make non-traditional and traditional clothing, church vestments and how to mend clothes
CraftThis workshop teaches beadwork, printing and other handcrafts. Some of the products are bead-jewellery, traditional bags, jug covers, wall-hangers, cushions, pipes, t-shirts and also hard-drawn cards.
LEATHER WORKThis workshop teaches skills in handling leather goods, namely how to make and repair shoes, and how to produce a variety of products such as sandals, hats, wallets, belts, bags. key holders etc.
POTTERYThis workshop teaches coiling, clay throwing, slaving, glazing and firing techniques in which beautiful designs on vases, dishes, and sculptures are created.
Training by Enterprise Development Centre(EDC) • Started 2003 when the administrator noticed the necessity of business skills: • Business opportunity • Business plan • Bookkeeping and costing • Computer literate course (pipeline)
Analysis • 104 enterprises have been started • Crafts 13 • Sewing 44 • Leather 24 • Pottery 35 • Employed 46
Conclusions • Training disabled needs special skills. • Training is a must • Competition • On the job training
