  1. In Search of God’s Ideal Mother “ A Happy Life, A Happy Wife” “Dedication is what makes drudgery divine”. That is why one woman and mother will find her home a prison and another a palace. “The world can do without its council and committee meetings; it cannot do without its homes”

God’s Ideal Mother Should Love Her Husband and Children • Titus 2:3-5 3 Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. 4 Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, 5 to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.

  3. Her love should promote the well-being of her husband and children. v.4 • Philo = brotherly love, general love for mankind, friendship love • Eros = erotic love, sensual love, feeling love • Agape = selfless sacrificial love. Unconditional love

  4. b) Her love should be reflected in her character. v. 4, 5 • Self-controlled = discreet, discerning, insightful • Pure • Kind = good

  5. c) Her love should show trust and submission to her husband v. 5 • d) Her love should reinforce the Word of God • v. 5 • e) Her love should be affectionate • 1 Thess. 2:7,8 But we were gentle among you, like a mother caring for her little children. Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well, because you had become so dear to us.

  6. 2. God’s Ideal Mother Should Teach Her Children a Living Faith • 2 Timothy 1:5I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.

  7. 2 Timothy 3:14 – 17 14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15 and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

God’s Ideal Mother Should Make Her First Responsibility Her Home • Titus 2:5 …to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God. • 1 Tim. 5:14 So I counsel younger widows to marry, to have children, to manage their homes and to give the enemy no opportunity for slander.

  9. Application • All these things women, and especially mothers, are to be “so that no one may malign the Word of God”. Titus 2:5 • “Malign” = revile, contradict, that the Gospel and the glory of God will be missed or misunderstood.

  10. The Bible tells woman to be concerned about displaying the glory of God in the Gospel of Jesus Christ – to give their lives to this end, just as a Christian man should be doing. • ALL THIS SO THAT THE “WORD OF GOD WILL NOT BE MALIGNED”
