Deciding the road ahead • We need dialogs with broad participation to get a grasp of reality • A 3-pronged approach could be • Collect data, conduct analyses, create a database • Have an activity forum with periodic activities (experience seminars, expert seminars, panel discussions) • Have a core group for each aspect of academic culture

  5. Extra-curricular activities • Recruiter expectations • Data: spread/extent of activities; • Actions: • how to cap rec. expectations through thresholds • Classify activities into mutually exclusive classes • Structure the activities into courses • How to prevent overload

  6. Student demotivation • Courses are not interesting • Data: interest level, causes, suggestions • Assignment/quizzes make us study • Data: #assignments in courses • Study the night before exam is adequate • Data: • Actions: Reformulate exams to require deeper understanding • No value addition in classes • Data : Coursewise • Competition

Starting off • A panel discussion on “Math Teaching at IITB” (2 hours) – Mid March 2013 • An expert seminar on Educational tools and techniques (1.5 hours) – End March 2013 • Planning writeups by faculty on how to use tools & techniques covered in item 2 – April’13 • Experience sharing seminars – April’13 • 1.5 day workshop on teaching methodologies – July-August 2013
