General Arjan Update on current levels for powering tests, including the MQTL family Sandrine RCO.A78B2 Mateusz Analysis of a quench (IT, IPQ, IPD, 600 A) Analysis of a FPA (IT, IPQ, IPD, 600 A) Analysis of a 600 A current cycle MP3 meeting 12/2/2013
Quench tests are now scheduled for Thu 14/2 06h00 to Sat 16/2 06h00. Powering tests are now scheduled for Sat 16/2 07h00 to Fri 1 /3 23h00. During quench tests there is support from the MPE piquet. During powering tests there is no support from the MPE piquet. So in case of a problem on a circuit, stop testing this circuit and ask help during normal working hours to QPS experts. LabView piquet support (for the PM browser and analysis tools) is available on 168757. We should check this week if all still works fine so that there are no surprises during the weekend. Note down ideas for improvement of the PM browser or other LabView tools, and we can than ask Adriaan&Odd to implement them.
Quench tests Thu 14/2 6h00 - Sat 16/2: 6h00 All quenches should be analysed and ‘signed’ within 1-2 hrs after the quench. There will probably be 4 quenches during 48 hrs.
Quench tests: MP3 coverage for analysis Test 1: ADT fast. Quench foreseen during working hours on Thursday. Daniel will be present. Test 2: Collimation protons. Quench foreseen for Thursday evening. Daniel will very likely be present. If quench is much delayed then Bernhard volunteered to be phoned during the night, or Arjan after 5h00. Test 3: Collimation ions. This test will very probably be suppressed. Test 4: Q6. Quench foreseen for Friday during working hours. Several MP3 members available. Test 5: Steady state bump. Quench foreseen for Friday evening/night. Daniel will probably cover until 2h00 on Sat early morning. If the quench occurs later during the night, then the analysis will be done on Sat morning (Probably Sandrine). In that case OP should not power the concerned circuits before MP3 arrives.
Powering tests It is decided to perform for all 600 A circuits a PNO.a3 test (current cycle to nominal) followed by a PNO.b1 (FPA). Both tests have to be analysed and signed by MP3. Power to nominal for the IPQ’s will be performed with an intermediate current plateau with nominal current in one aperture and half nominal in the other aperture. This makes it possible to check the regulation of current lead 2. Signature rights have been given to all MP3 members (RBAC role “HwcMppExpert”). RD1.R8 has one disconnected heater circuit. A document is available (?) on our temporary web space. The spare D1 still has to be tested in SM18. Has everybody checked if they can open a remote CCM console?
The triplet circuits (including correctors) are rather complicated. There are already quite some events and issues from the last couple of years, among which PC faults, UFO, training quenches, two unexplained open circuits RCOSX3.L2, RCOX3.L2, quench heater (RQX.R1), …… Quite some PSpice simulations have been performed, see: https://espace.cern.ch/LHC-CM/Circuits/ Would be good to have one person among us who becomes the triplet expert.
MP3 website • Proposal: We keep the existing ‘MP3 repository’ sharepoint • https://espace.cern.ch/mp3/default.aspx • with of course some modifications. • On this website we store general info: • Minutes of meetings • Presentations • Helpful hints for analysis • Info on HWC / powering tests / test procedures • QPS explanations • Info concerning software in the CCC • …
