  1. Build a Conveyor Feeder

  2. Build a Conveyor Feeder • Performance Objective: Given VEX parts build a conveyor feeder that can move a block six inches horizontally and then 12 inches vertically. • Enabling Objectives: • identify the parts of a conveyor feeder • explain the role each part plays in a conveyor system • explain the purpose of a conveyor feeder

  3. Conveyor Feeder In VEX competitions it may be necessary to pick up an object and move that object horizontally and/or vertically For example, VEX Elevation

  4. Elevation Goal The goal was to stack blocks in the towers

  5. Solution One solution for this task was to build a conveyor feeder using a tank tread kit A tank tread kits contains: tread links, tank tread drive/idler wheels, double bogie wheel assemblies, single bogie wheel assemblies

  6. Tank Tread Kit Tank Treads are in contact with the object being moved with the conveyor

  7. Drive/Idler Wheels The drive wheels are connected to the motors and are used to drive the tank treads These wheels may be used as idler wheels if the tank tread is too loose

  8. Bogie Wheel Assemblies Bogie wheel assemblies are used to give the tank tread system its shape The double bogie wheel assembly is used to support the tank treads while moving across a surface

  9. Tank Tread Kit A completed tank tread kit to drive a robot may look like this:

  10. Conveyor Feeder The conveyor feeder may not require all of the parts necessary to drive a tank robot It may be beneficial to have the top and bottom of the tread system to be parallel and not trapezoidal like to example shown on the previous slide

  11. Conveyor Feeder To use the tank tread kit as a conveyor feeder to move a block, it may be necessary to have two tread systems parallel so the block is placed in between the two treads When both treads move, the block will be moved as well and not rotate

  12. Build a Conveyor Feeder You should now be able to builder your own conveyor feeder Use Design Brief 4.1 to build your own conveyor feeder to move a block!
