Individual assignment/written essay: CHOOSE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING • Discuss whether an organization might be better considered as consisting of many sub-cultures which are conceptually different, rather than one 'major' culture. • Conduct a full analysis, using theories of impression management and perception, into a major event associated with a major organization, or a major international event or political issue - e.g. Toyota in 2010 or the Japanese government management of the issues surrounding the earthquake and tsunami. • What individual variables differentiate good and poor decision-making in an organization? • Your company employs a lot of people who work on computers and are provided with company phones. Whilst tolerating a minimum amount of private use, what can the manager do to prevent this use getting out of hand without at the same time alienating the workforce?
guidelines • Your essay must have: • An introduction outlining the problems or issues you are addressing • A central part that addresses the issue; use references always unless what you are writing is entirely your own thinking; you are expected to consider the literature on your topic. • A strong conclusion that also includes implications, options, recommendations. A conclusion IS NOT a summary • A full list of referenced sources, not included in the word count • You must not: • In any way just copy or transcribe what other people have written. This is called plagiarism and you will fail. • Small sentences or phrases, in quotation marks and fully cited, are acceptable but only in small amounts.
