  2. What companies? • Can be well known vs niche companies • Can be non profit vs for profit • But should not be done yet, except if: • “industry segment” guide (consider existing and past cases, e.g. boutique hotel chains entering Australia) • Some examples: • Fred Hollows foundation to South America • Telstra to Indonesia • Wendy’s to Australia • H&M to Australia

  3. What will I mark? 4. What will I mark Content • Analysis • Accurately applies, (and critically evaluates where necessary) a range of appropriate theories and research to effectively analyse the entry issue or problem, including insightful evaluation of business decisions/practice in light of ethical, social/cultural considerations • Recommendations • Consistent, effective argument, well-supported by analysis, evidence, theory and research. • Appropriate, feasible and practical recommendations • Evaluates differing perspectives and alternative strategies, acknowledges limitations and constraints of own conclusion/solution

  5. Some “common sense” suggestions • Use analysis and evidence to back up your conclusions • Do not rely on unsupported opinions, over-generalizations, and platitudes as a substitute for tight, logical argument backed up with facts and figures. • Tables and charts are your new best friends • Don’t just tack them on at the end: explain, cite key numbers, highlight key conclusion • Use strategic concepts and analytical tools • Be reasonable and objective. • Don’t gloss over aspects not favorable to your conclusions • try not to exaggerate or overdramatize. • Strike phrases such as “I think,” “I feel,” and “I believe” when you edit your first draft and write in “My analysis (which one?) shows,” instead.

  6. What should be inside? • Executive Summary • Short background of company • Key strategy, competitive position, issues faced • Why go abroad? • Why choose a particular country? • Market size? Resource? Distance? • How should it enter and compete? • Mode of entry • Some implementation issues
