  16. Counting down to the holidays Calendar of “to do’s” to prepare for creating and posting WeGive.org project THE NONPROFIT CENTER OF NORTHEAST FLORIDA ENABLES THRIVING NONPROFIT LEADERSHIP, FACILITATES COLLECTIVE ACTION, AND ENHANCES PUBLIC UNDERSTANDING.

  17. Identifying and Selecting a WeGive.org Project • Identify 10-15 of your most urgent needs. • Look to staff, Board, volunteers and friends for ideas. • Create a list of 10 and ask them to rank them; tally and analyze results • Do they fit the WeGive.org criteria? • Are they attainable, appeal to broad audience? • Do they tug at heart strings? August 29 – September 9

  18. Prepare WeGive.org application • Target Oct. 3 as project start date • Submit to Nonprofit Center by Sept. 16 • Find or take pictures to associate with your post; try to have multiple photos to use throughout season. September 12– 16

  19. Use a captivating photo. A picture is worth so much more than just words. Ask yourself: What will attract a donor? • Do not use nonprofit jargon, technical or clinical wording. SPEAK to the people in a way that they will understand your purpose. Reminders to make project attractive

  20. Bravo! Great photos!

  21. Example from JDRF project – Get in the Game! Many families with children suffering from juvenile diabetes need some R&R. Why not give them a night out of family fun? Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) of North Florida is looking for donations so our families can enjoy some quality time together such as an evening of bowling, going to the movies or participating in an outdoor event. Each donation will go toward the costs of hosting a family for an exciting activity. Straight forward language

  22. Develop a mini-marketing plan to promote project (using info from this webinar!) • Create brief talking points for staff, Board and volunteers • (Done! Overview factsheet coming to you with WeGive.org language) • Announce/inform selected projects to staff, Board and volunteers • Ask them to share on FB, with family and friends • Identify Board member(s) to help “champion” the project(s) September 19 - 23

  23. Take the time now to train one or two staff people to inform all staff members of the importance and mechanics of WeGive. • Hold an “all call” meeting to get everyone informed and excited about the program. • Your staff are the frontline people who can help you spread the word! They have many contacts …don’t leave them out! September 19 - 23

  24. Review, revise and share our prepared “to do” list for your champion (Done! Coming to you after webinar!) • Draft language and messages for Facebook, Twitter and/or web site postings; create schedule of distribution • I.D. any existing communications vehicles to assist with spreading the word • Newsletters, direct mail pieces, regular correspondence • Ask Board members to purchase a minimum of five $10 cards to give as gifts and create burst of giving. September 26 - 30

  25. Completed projects to be posted live on WeGive.org site • Announce on your web site; add the WeGive.org badge • Post on Facebook with link; Tweet • Continue tagging any communications tools with WeGive.org info • Signature line on your email • Voicemail greetings • Add WeGive.org logo where appropriate (Need logo? Done! Coming to you in jpeg format!) October 3 – 7

  26. Board meeting coming up? Can I make a brief presentation? • Special event coming up? What’s the best way to get them informed and excited to participate? • Have I “stamped” all printed materials with the WeGive.org logo? Somewhere along the way, ask yourself:

  27. Post weekly FB message or Tweet • Take pictures to use in future posts. • I.D. company or partner who can cross promote to customers and/or employees • Ex: Asking for $$ for art supplies? See if ReddiArts can help! • Find human interest story for newsletter or press release? October 10 - 20

  28. Post messages and/or pictures on FB, web site • Provide staff, Board and volunteers with update • Note: Nonprofit Center holiday WeGive.org marketing plan kicks in October 24 – November 4

  29. Why is this so important? • Online donating has proven to be more successful than traditional or direct mail donation programs. In 2008, $27 more was given. • Online donation opportunities make it convenient for donors to give…so let them know! • According to Nonprofit Trends blog, nonprofits had at least one online gift of $1,000 or more last year. And online donors, can and will switch to offline donating, if cultivated. So HOW do you get the word out? Communication is key…getting the word out

  30. Add project page link to everything…web site, newsletter, correspondence, brochures, email signatures etc. • Add WeGive.org badge to your web site. (the html code you receive with approval is linked directly to your project search page). • Email supporters, volunteers, Board members about your project…include the link. • Use the SHARE THIS on your project page • Remind employees to send info to their contacts as well. • Talk about your project on your Facebook and Twitter pages…link to the WeGive.org page. How to get the word out

  31. Tap into the holiday spirit! When sending out holiday cards or announcements, mention your project. • Remind corporate donors that WeGive.org gift cards make nice gifts.* • Acknowledge donors on FB or web site *Note about gift cards …your organization does not get credit until gift cards are redeemed. November 7 - 23

  32. Ask yourself: What’s missing? More photos? • Craft note from Executive Director to key leaders, friends of organization encouraging them to buy gift cards • Last push effort to Board members, volunteers, staff to by gift cards. December 1 - 15

  33. Best Practices: • Ask Board members to include link on their signature lines, link on their personal Facebook pages. • Create excitement with employees, volunteers…competition among them might motivate more activity! • Cross market: launching a new newsletter, campaign or internal program? Mention your project on WeGive.org! Use your tools already in place. Communication is key…getting the word out
