2. What is the Student Success Center? The Student Success Center (SSC) is Benedictine University’s support center for tutoring and learning enhancement, career development, special needs services and student leadership and engagement programs.

3. Academic Support Services Learning Support • Learning Specialists assist students with written and quantitative skill development. - Ms. Anne Marie Smith – Writing Specialist - Mrs. Hillary Holecek – Math Specialist • Students can make one on one appointments with these individuals for math, statistics, and writing as well as time management skills and test preparation strategies.

4. Academic Support Services Study Sessions with Peer Tutors The SSC’s peer tutors offer special study sessions in a variety of disciplines, including: • Biology • Chemistry • Physics • Economics • Accounting • Psychology • Writing

5. Academic Support Services Study Zone • The Study Zone is a place for quiet study, student computers and tutoring. Tutoring schedule is available on our website. Structured Learning Assistance • Special sections of writing and math courses that offer support workshops on a weekly basis. Workshops • Topical workshops cover study habits, time management, test taking tips, managing stress, monitoring performance and other subjects.

6. Academic Support Services Bridge to Success Program – Summer 2014 • Bridge to Success program is designed to help students who may need additional academic and career support or opportunities to build confidence and prepare for the challenges of college learning. There is no cost to students. For additional information visit www.ben.edu/ssc • Week-long program with two options in August.

7. Special Needs Services • Services for Students with Disabilities • Under ADA, students with documented physical or mental disabilities may be eligible for academic accommodations • At the college level, students must self-identify need for special services, including physical disabilities, learning disabilities and psychiatric conditions, and provide documentation to support the request. • Students have the right to choose whether or not to use accommodations from class to class and semester to semester.

Career Development Services • Career Counseling • Students who are Undecided majors or those who are unsure about their chosen major. • Students who know their major but are unclear about their career direction or unaware of the scope of career opportunities available to them. • Students who want to do research careers, employers, industry trends, etc.
