  1. Infrared and Radio Ali Youssef 10/7

  2. Infrared • Discovered in 1800 by William Herschel. • Frequency range of approximately 430 THz down to 300 GHz. • More than Half of the total energy from the Sun is infrared • Infrared Radiation can drastically effect Earth’s Climate

  3. Infrared uses in daily life • Infrared is used for heating the planet (via the sun) • Remote controls, Radios, LEDS, Phones etc. • Weather prediction (analyzing cloud formations, temperature etc.) • Infrared is used in night vision technology in order to see in the dark • Thermography (determination of the temperature of object)

  4. Radio waves • Used for fixed and mobile radio communication, broadcasting, radar and other navigation systems, • Radio waves have frequencies from 300 GHz to as low as 3 kHz • The distance a radio wave travels in one second, in a vacuum, is 299,792,458 meters • Radio waves are emitted by stars and gases in space

  5. Radio Waves Uses • Bluetooth, 3G, LTE, radio stations, wifi and other communication devices/programs • Radars • Space exploration • Send signals into outer space in hopes of communicating with extraterrestrials
