BACKGROUND • September 26, 2009 (Saturday), Tropical Storm “Ketsana” hit the Philippines with sustained winds of 55kph and gustiness of up to 11kph. • Regions Affected: Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley Region, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, CAR and Metro Manila. • Results: Widespread flooding and landslides • Lifelines affected (roads/bridges, • communication, power) • Destroying hundreds of houses • Destroying health infrastructures • Forcing tens of thousands • in evacuation centers • Hundreds of lives loss
TROPICAL STORM KETSANA • 2.5 million families affected in Manila and nearby provinces • 373,675 families taking refuge in 561 evacuation centers • 246 deaths; a number still missing • Super typhoon Parma has entered Philippine area of responsibility
