Economy In Freiburg there is a particularly favourable climate.the surrounding areas are famous for wine production. There is a large student population, which affects the cultural and social life of the city. There are a large number of public spaces, theatres, cinemas, many monuments. So it is one of the most visited town in Germany.
Ecology Freiburg is known as an "eco-city". The newly built neighbourhoods of Vauban and Rieselfeld were developed and built according to the idea of sustainability. Freiburg Christmas Market Freiburg's Christmas market, on the Rathausplatz and in Franziskanerstrasse, is located in the very heart of Freiburg's beautiful historical quarter. The Freiburg Christmas Market offers visitors a wide range of traditional arts and crafts from the Black Forest, including straw shoes and colourful wooden toys. The highlight being the candle workshop where visitors can watch real beewax candles being made to order.
CATHEDRAL Freiburg Minster is the cathedral of Freiburg. The last duke of Zähringen started the building around 1200, the construction continued in 1230 in Gothic style. At the beginning it was a little church. In 1827 it became a cathedral.
HISTORY Fribourg was founded in the medieval period by the dukes ofZähringen. In 1415 was under the Dominion of Habsburg. In 1600 it became the capital of Austria and in 1677 it was conquered by the French. In 1745 returned under the Austrian dominion. After the 2° world war the city was destroyed. Now Fribourg is the capital of the Black Forest.
Around the cathedral, the Old Town enchants with its colourful market place and a wealth of impressive historical buildings dating back to various periods. Tradition and modernity coexist in pleasant harmony.
