Using Microsoft Excel Timothy Owens Jennifer Keng Pierson
A Few Basic WebPLUS Reminders… • The file you receive from Bibliostat/vendor may not formatted exactly for uploading to WebPLUS. • Excel is NOT directly linked to WebPLUS; any changes you make in your AE/Outlet/Annotation files will have to be reloaded. • Any files reloaded into WebPLUS will overwrite all previous information.
Uploading Excel files into WebPLUS Common Upload Problems: • If AE/Outlet files have any missing/blank numbers or -2’s, these must all be changed to –1 • Annotation file can only be uploaded in .txt or .csv format, not .xls (can resave .xls as .txt or .csv) • Sometimes there will be an error that says “Decimal or incorrectly formatted numbers” or something to that effect.
Excel Overview • Tables in WebPLUS provide all state library information • Can use this information to sort, rank, spot outliers, etc.
Annotation Tips • You can view edits either by Edit type, or by Library • I would suggest viewing by edit type first, to see if there are any large numbers of any particular edit • Makes it much easier to annotate • Many edit annotations can be copied and pasted; e.g., state-wide increases in revenue or collections • Copy and paste (CTRL-C, CTRL-V) • Click and drag • Double click lower right hand corner • Edit annotations can be re-uploaded at any time
