The forests of Bulgaria • Total area of Bulgaria: 111 000 sq. km • Total population: 8 mln; 2 mln live in mountainous areas • Third richest in biodiversity country in Europe • 34% of the total country surface • 3.9 mln hectares forestry area • 67% broadleave forests • 520 mln m3 total timber volume • 12.3 mln m3 annual increment • 4.4 mln m3 annual harvesting • 10 nature parks and 100 smaller protected areas

  3. UEF Conference 2006 in Bulgaria Date: June 27th – July 3rd 2006 Venue: Sofia, Jundola mountain region, Rila Monastery, Vitosha Mountain Topic: Forest management systems Organization: Union of the Bulgarian Foresters and the BULPROFOR in collaboration with the National Forestry Board

  5. Day 2, June 28th 2006 8:00-9:00Breakfast 9:00 Departure to the University of Forestry 9:30 Reception of the delegates. Program of Dance ensemble 10:00 Opening of the Conference in the Aula of the University of Forestry and Welcome addresses 10:10-12:00 Plenary session 12:00-12:30 Coffee-break 12:30-14:00 Plenary session 14:00-15:00 Lunch at the canteen of the University of Forestry 15:00 Departure and visit of the National museum of history 17:00 Field visit in the Nature park “Vitosha” 19:00 Return to the hotel 20:00 Official dinner, hosted by the National Forest Administration

Day 3, June 29th 2006 8:00-9:00 Breakfast 9:30 Begin of the Conference in the hotel 11:30-12:00 Coffee-break 12:00-13:00 Conference 13:00-14:00 Lunch 14:00 Departure for the “St. Alexander Nevski” Cathedral, sightseeing in Sofia 16:00 Departure to Jundola region 20:00 Dinner in the University facility incl. entertainment program

  7. Day 4, June 30th 2006 8:00-9:00 Breakfast 9:00 Planting of the European forest 10:00 Field excursion 13:00 Picnic at the Starina place 15:00 Departure to Bansko 19:00 Dinner in Bansko, hosted by BULPROFOR 21:00 Return to Jundola place

Day 5, July 1st 2006 8:00-9:00 Breakfast 9:00 Departure to Rila Monastery 11:00 Visit of the Monastery and Nature park “Rila Monastery” 13:30 Lunch, hosted by the Regional Forest Administration Kjustendil and the “Rila Monatsrey” Nature park directorate 15:00 Departure to Sofia 17:00 Accommodation in the facility of the National Forest Administration in the “Ofeliite” place; Visit of the moraines, Golden bridges and other sites in the “Vitosha” Nature park 20:00 Dinner, hosted by Regional Forest Administration Sofia

  9. Day 6, July 2nd 2006 8:00-9:00 Breakfast Departure of the delegates to the airport according their flight schedule
