The Work of Computer Scientists • The work of computer scientists falls into fourcategories: • a) designing and building software; • b) developing effective ways to solve computing problems, • c) devising new and better ways of using computers and addressing particular challenges in areas such as robotics, computer vision, or digital forensics. • d) planning and managing technology for businesses

  5. Careers in Computing • Computer Scientist • Computer Engineer • Database Administrator • Software Engineer • Information Systems Specialist • Information Technology Specialist • Computer Programmer • Computer Operator

Computing in Other Disciplines • Most jobs today require at least basic information technology (IT) skills: • Understand hardware and software basics • Troubleshoot (solve) common computer problems • Use the Internet and e-mail • Use word processing software • Create and working with spreadsheets • Work with databases • Create and giving electronic presentations

  7. Computing in Other Disciplines • Some professions require more specialized technology skills, such as: • Using computerized machinery • Creating models using software • Using diagnostic tools • Using project management tools
