Important Terms Migration • To move from one location to another. • This movement can be between countries and within countries.
Reasons for Migration Push Factors • Reasons why someone wants to leave their current location. • Examples: • War, famine, poverty, lack of religious and political freedom, natural disasters.
Pull Factors • Reasons why people are attracted to a new location. Examples: • Family, economic opportunity, availability of land, climate, democratic political system, access to technology, development of a resource, etc.
Multiculturalism • Government policy that recognizes and supports the traditions and identities of different cultures. Ethnocentric • Believing that your way of life is superior to other people’s way of life.
Prejudice • Belief that not all people have equal value. Discrimination • Unfair treatment.
Refugee • Person displaced from their country or from their home within their home country.
