  2. What you need to know about “Middle School” Team Concept * What are Teams? (6-1 & 6-2) * Why are they a good idea?

  3. 6th Grade Required Courses • English • Reading • Math • Science • Contemporary World Societies • PE Wellness

  4. Physical Education • The required P.E. Wellness uniform is a grey t-shirtand blue shorts. This uniform must be purchased from the P.E. Department. • Proper fitting tennis shoes that tie (stay on foot when kicking). • Write student’s name on uniforms. • Remember, PE clothes must be appropriate length according to school dress code requirements. • Dress out everyday.

  5. ElectiveChoices • Beginning Band • Choir – for Girls & Boys • Beginning Orchestra • Continuing Orchestra - which instrument?

  6. Art • Theater Arts • Study Hall • C.A.T.E.-Career and Technology Education • Semester Keyboarding • Semester Intro To Technology Elective Choices

  7. STAAR Accelerated classes will be assigned to students based on STAAR results. This will result in the loss of elective classes. Math Accel&READ 180Guidelines

  9. Common Worries • I won’t be able to find my classes. • I’ll forget which class to go to next. • I won’t be with my friends. • I won’t be able to get my locker open.

  10. More Worries • The older kids will pick on me. • I have to change clothes in PE! • What’s the dress code? • What are the school rules?

  11. Homework…Get Organized • Have a homework routine. • Have some supplies at home. • Choose a quiet place to do homework and study. • Make a timeline for projects. - “To Do” Lists!!! • Pack up when you are finished.

  12. Helpful Ideas • Once a week clean out that backpack! • Clean out your locker after each 6 weeks. • Check the agenda every night and discuss the day’s work with your parents. (they want to know what your doing).

  13. Wear your IDs at ALL times!!! Why???? IDs will be color coded to according to grade level, to help with safety and identification. IDs will be used to check out library books. IDs are scanned to get your lunch More Helpful Ideas

  14. Did you know…? • Each teacher has a website. • Many teachers list their daily assignments and sometimes attach homework assignments. • Go to www.dentonisd.org • Choose McMath at the top of the page. • Choose the team and then the teacher.

  15. Clubs and Organizations Stand for something, or you will fall for anything. Get Involved with your school!!! • Try out for the school plays • Try out for competitions (choir, theater, art, • band and orchestra • Look for flyers for clubs that you can join! Have McMath Pride!
