  2. GOD HEARS the CRY of the WEAK • Introduction 1. Ps. 40:1-5 David delivered from his sins & his enemies— origin of danger, suffering

Ps. 40:1-5 1 I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. 2 He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. 3 And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD. 4 Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.

  4. 5 Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.

Psalm 59:1-4 1 Deliver me from mine enemies, O my God: defend me from them that rise up against me. 2 Deliver me from the workers of iniquity, and save me from bloody men. 3 For, lo, they lie in wait for my soul: the mighty are gathered against me; not for my transgression, nor for my sin, O LORD. 4 They run and prepare themselves without my fault: awake to help me, and behold.

God Sees & Hears • Ps. 139:11-12 All places 11 If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. 12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.

Women & Children Often Victims • Mal. 2:13 Women weep in worship And this have ye done again, covering the altar of the LORD with tears, with weeping, and with crying out, insomuch that he regardeth not the offering any more, or receiveth it with good will at your hand.

Women & Children Often Victims • Eph. 6:4; Col. 3:21 Children weep: angry, discouraged And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.

Why They Weep • How wounds inflicted: • Verbal, physical, & sexual abuse • Berate, belittle, demean • Scream, anger fits, severe beatings • Manipulate, flatter, betray, false promises • Fondle, rape • Slam doors til wall shakes, throw chairs • Menace, threaten— atmosphere of fear • Tight, closed circle: don’t talk, live in fear

Why They Weep • Who inflicts wounds: • Mate wounds mate • Father, mother wound child • Child wounds parent • Brother, sister • Other relatives • Brethren, friends • Strangers • Non-Christian inflicts wounds • Christian inflicts wounds

Physical, emotional, psychological wounds • Discouraged, depressed • Repressed anger • Self-doubt, self-loathing • Mental anguish • Irrational fear, phobias • Nightmares • Suicidal thoughts • Try to hide bruises • Did I invite, deserve it? • Hide, cower, crawl, avoid person • Obsessive, compulsive • Doubt all good, even God • Lifelong struggle • How wounds torment victim:

  18. i know a home that isnt as God would have it wreaks havoc in the heart of the child i know a father who salves his pain with alcohol inflicts harm on the people he loves i know a father fleeing from his demons turns them loose on his family i know those who love him scatter to the safe places of the heart a refuge of the mind prepared by God i know til i die there is comfort in this place • Deep wounds, lifelong struggle:

In Prayer • Ps. 32:6-7 God near at hand, can be found 6 For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him. 7 Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance.

Psalm 61:1-4 1 Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. 2 From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. 3 For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy. 4 I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah.

Psalm 119:97-102 97 O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day. 98 Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me. 99 I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation. 100 I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts. 101 I have refrained my feet from every evil way, that I might keep thy word. 102 I have not departed from thy judgments: for thou hast taught me.
