INTRODUCTION • Registration: • Information available on the EAST website www.east.org • Both Oral and Poster presenters are expected to register for the meeting • Please plan to attend the Awards Ceremony on Friday January 13, 2012 at 11:30am • All Alexander and Templeton contestants will be recognized • Winner of these competitions as well as Best Manuscript will be announced

  5. PRESENTATION TIPS • Oral Presentations: • Bring your slides on a CD of Thumb Drive. Personal computers not allowed on the podium. • Must be provided to our AV associate no less than one hour prior to your scheduled presentation time • A Disclosure Slide is required to be shown at the start of the presentation.

  6. PRESENTATION TIPS • Oral Presentations: • Presentations are limited to 10 minutes. If you exceed that time the session moderator may cut you short. • Invited discussants will then make their comments from a separate podium. • You will then have a brief opportunity to respond to the discussants questions (have a pen available) • Questions from the floor then accepted • Total presentation/discussion is limited to 20 minutes

PRESENTATION TIPS • Poster Presentations: • Poster Professor Walk Rounds to be held on Friday, January 13, 2012 from 12:00 – 1:30 pm. • Setup • Poster Boards are 4 ft. high and 8 ft. wide • You may set up your poster between 11:00 am to 3:00 pm on Thursday, January 12, 2012. Must be up by 3:00pm.

PRESENTATION TIPS • Poster Presentations: • Please provide a succinct overview of your poster to the team of Professors. • The Professors will then lead a brief informal discussion. • Each Poster Professor needs to cover about 6 posters during the 90 minute session. So don’t rush. You have about 15 minutes at your poster. • When finished with the rounds please promptly remove your poster. Unclaimed posters will be discarded.

  11. Manuscript Preparation Tips • In 2012, JoT will be known as the Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery and edited by Dr. Ernest Moore. With a new editor comes new editorial policies… ● Original articles are limited to 3000 wordswith 40 referencesand a six tables and/or figures. ● Clinically-oriented papers must include a level of evidence at the end of the abstract. ● JoT asks that all studies are reported in accordance with international standards (i.e. CONSORTfor clinical trials, PRISMA for systematic reviews, MIAME for microarray studies, etc.) ● All articles require a detailed author contribution statement placedafter the manuscript’s main text. How to START your PROJECT? • What is the PROBLEM? • What is your HYPOTHESIS? • What MEASUREMENTS are you going to take to proof your hypothesis? • Once the data is collected WHO is going to do your STATISTICAL work? • What the RESULTS SHOWED?........DO THEY MAKE SENSE!!!! • How they CORRELATE with MY HYPOTHESIS? • How this results are going to change MY PRACTICE? • FUTURE STUDIES

  13. How to WRITE your PROJECT? • HAVE A PLAN to do this……day /weekend/ night/music/bathroom???........FIND INSPIRATION!! • BRAINSTORM……TEAM EFFORT….. DIVIDE and CONQUER!!!! • TIMING TO WRITE A MANUSCRIPT • 4 WEEKS to write EAST MANUSCRIPT • INTRODUCTION……2 DAYS • METHODS…….2 DAYS • RESULTS…….2 DAYS • DISCUSSION……..7 DAYS 14 DAYS

How to SUBMIT your PROJECT? 1)      Authors will be required to submit their manuscripts to JoT’s online submission system (www.editorialmanager.com/jt ) and to EAST by Thursday, December 1, 2011. 2)      Manuscripts submitted to JoT’s online system and designated 2012 EAST Podium Paper or 2012 EAST Poster Paper will be assigned to Dr. Duchesne as guest editor. a.       Upon receipt, Dr. Duchesne (with the help of JoT Staff) will send the manuscript to members of the EAST Publications Committee pre-assigned to the manuscript. b.      Publications Committee members will review and provide feedback using the JoT online system. 3)       Once EAST Publications Committee members have filed their reviews, Dr. Duchesne will issue a final recommendation to authors. Manuscript s will be flagged in the system to indicate that they have undergone EAST pre-review, and they will then be processed as official submissions to the Journal.

  15. Manuscript Review Deadlines 1)      Ten days before the Dec. 1st submission deadline, JoT will provide Dr. Duchesne and Christine with a list of those who have not submitted their manuscript to the online system. Dr. Duchesne will contact corresponding authors (Podium presenters only) who have not submitted their manuscript to JoT.  2)      The Publications Committee will not review any manuscripts submitted after December 10, 2011. Manuscripts submitted after Dec. 10th will be processed by JoT staff as regular original articles. 3)      Publications Committee Members will receive an email invitation to review a manuscript. They will have 3 days to accept the invitation and 14 days to complete the review. JoT will monitor acceptance of invitations and timely submission of reviews. 

  16. Leaders are made, they are not born. They are made by hard effort, which is the price which all of us must pay to achieve any goal that is worthwhile. The greatest accomplishment is not in never falling, but in rising again after you fall.

  17. Dictionary is the only place that success comes before work. Hard work is the price we must pay for success. I think you can accomplish anything if you're willing to pay the price. I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious.
