Higher Physical Education Skills and Techniques Developing Our Sessions
Look over your Session 1 and make sure you have included the following: • Kept it Simple • Kept it Basic • Warm Up is appropriate to the activity and your ability • Work time/rest time in your warm up • Two practices are different • Two practices are described AND with a diagram • Work Time/Rest time/repetitions in each practice • Targets in each practice (a percentage of success) • Game is suited to the skill that you are developing • What is the condition on the game and what are you playing up to? What is your target? Session 1 – the beginning
Think about how you felt when you were completing Session1. Questions 8 in the NAB is a SUBJECTIVE opinion of your own feelings when completing each session – but it must be detailed! • WARM UP EVALUATION • Did you feel warm at the end of it? • Was it fun? • Were the repetitions/work time enough? • Would you change it? Why? • If you wouldn’t change it, why not? • PRACTICE 1 AND 2 EVALUATION • Did you meet your targets? • Was it easy/difficult? • Were the repetitions/work time enough? • Would you change the practice? Why? • If not changing the practice, what would you change? Why? • GAME EVALUATION • What was the score? • Was it fun? • Did you use the skill? How often? • Was the skill successful? • Would you change it? Why? • If you wouldn’t change it, why not? Session 1 - evaluation REMEMBER – IF YOU IDENTIFY CHANGES IN YOUR EVALUATION, YOUR NEXT SESSION (I.E. NUMBER 2, SHOULD SHOW THESE CHANGES!
Look over your Session 2 and make sure you have included the following: • Is it PROGRESSIVE from Session 1 • Have you changed TARGET percentages? WORK/REST time? • Have you INITIATED the changes you made from your Session Evaluation • Warm Up is appropriate to the activity and your ability • Work time/rest time in your warm up • Two practices are different • Two practices are described AND with a diagram • Work Time/Rest time/repetitions in each practice • Targets in each practice (a percentage of success) • Game is suited to the skill that you are developing • What is the condition on the game and what are you playing up to? What is your target? Session 2 – making progress

Now let’s plan Session3 for completion in today’s practical session: • PRACTICE 1 • Should be the simpler of the two practices • Should be feeder or pressure drill • Should have an increased target of success (%) from Session 2 • DIAGRAM • PRACTICE 2 • Should be the more difficult of the two practices • Should be pressure or conditioned rally • Should have an increased target of success (%) or work time from Session 2 • DIAGRAM WARM UP If you have kept the same warm up for the first two weeks – now is the time to change it! Take into account your Session 2 Evaluation and changes you have said you will make….. Session 3 – the middle of the programme • GAME • Should have a score • Should have a condition on it that is suited to the skill you are developing • Should have a success rate (either a win by a certain number of points, or a score you want to aim for)
