  1. LONDON AIRSPACE CHANGE GATWICK LOCAL AREA CONSULTATION

  2. Contents • Context for this Consultation • Consultation Scope • Consultation Area • Options • Next Steps

  3. Scope • Gatwick Airport Ltd has commenced a further period of consultation from 23rd May 2014 for 12 weeks • This is a follow on consultation to the London Airspace Consultation undertaken in partnership with NATS which finished in Jan 2014 • The proposed changes are part of our airspace change programme to modernise the routes into and out of Gatwick in line with the UK Future Airspace Strategy published by the CAA • The initial consultation was on effects across wide swathes • The initial consultation was to get stakeholder views to feed into design of detailed options • The follow on consultation was always part of the change process agreed up front with the CAA

  4. Scope • We have now identified specific options • These options are all within the areas covered in the London Airspace Consultation where we presented information to indicate: • How many overflights there could be • How high they would be • How loud they would be • We are now consulting on additional effects that could only be determined once we had developed specific options • The effects covered in this consultation are to: • Noise contours and footprints • DfT Noise abatement requirements (NPRs & arrival joining points)

  5. Consultation Area • The area covers all new noise metrics, and all affected noise abatement requirements • Not all areas are effected equally – some benefit, some have disbenefit, some not directly affected

  6. Options • RWY26 (westerly) departures: • three options for new route to the south to achieve one minute interval • one option matches ADNID trial • one includes complimentary change to eastbound route • three further options which include night-time respite for each proposed route • RWY08 (easterly) departures: • one option to improve environmental performance of flights to the east • Arrivals to both RWY08 and RWY26: • options for night time respite variations • Noise abatement requirements: • Re-centred, narrowed and/or shorten NPRS for departures • Relaxed joining point requirements for night-time arrivals • Details of options in separate slides

  7. Next Steps • All the presented options are feasible; stakeholder views will help determine which are taken forward (subject to DfT approval) • Final designs to be determined after all feedback has been analysed • Overall design for Gatwick at all altitudes to be jointly proposed by Gatwick Airport Ltd and NATS • Publication of full proposal in winter 2014/15
