  2. 5 Simple Steps: • Stay informed! • Be as knowledgeable as you can be. • Know your numbers (statistical evidence). • Tell your story (anecdotal evidence). • Be aware of the concerns your contact(s) are considering. • Don’t forget to connect everything to “the big picture.”

  3. 5 Simple Steps: • Build Relationships! • Get to know your contacts & their staff. • Be tactful. • Be relevant. • Be brief. • Be helpful.

  4. 5 Simple Steps: • Communicate! • Be sure to communicate your thoughts/position clearly. • Be timely. • Be resourceful. • Be connected and be a connector.

  5. 5 Simple Steps: • Get your campus community involved! • Share your efforts with your colleagues. • Ask your colleagues to help. • Seek out stories. • Always be watching and listening for connections. • Don’t forget Step #1 – Know your stuff!

  6. 5 Simple Steps: • Keep your Associations (IASFAA, WASFAA, NASFAA) informed! • Remember, you are not alone! • Learn from your colleagues. • Study success stories. • Tell your colleagues what you are up to.
