You are expected to attend class. • This includes period 0 (before school) and after school / evening rehearsals and performances. • The school district does not provide transportation to school. • The school district DOES provide transportation to most public performances • Most Competitions, Football games, etc • Things to consider: • There is NO substitute for ‘being there’. • To be early is to be on time, to be on time is to be late, to be late is to be disrespectful and inconsiderate of you peers and instructors. • Individuals practice to learn their part. Ensemble members rehearse to learn everyone else’s part.
Attendance Expectations • If a conflict is unavoidable, an ‘Absence/Latency Request Form’ must be completed and submitted to the Director. • Examples of excused absences • Medical emergency/necessity (Routine appointments are not excused absences) • Wedding • Significant religious obligation (Bar/Bat Mitzvah, Confirmation, etc) • Death in the family/funeral • **Help Class…
Help Class Policy • HELP CLASS POLICY: • All Band students are expected to attend help class after school. • If your classroom teacher is unwilling to offer after school help class, you may schedule a morning help class. • The proper attendance form is to be completed and turned in at least 1 full day in advance. • If a rehearsal is missed due to help class, students will need to remain for a short time after school • THAT SAME DAY to attend Band help class and make up the missed band class. • Failure to follow this procedure in full will result in a ‘0’ for the daily grade and a reduced weekly playing grade score for the missed rehearsal.
Attendance Expectations • The following are examples of items that would NOT be considered excused: • College visitations • *Athletic events not associated with the Marple Newtown School District • Interscholastic Athletic Addendum must be filled out prior to the start of the sport season in question. • Concert events not associated with the Marple Newtown School District • Club meetings or events • Outside employment obligations • Any extra morning or evening classes (college prep, SAT courses, religion, etc.)
