Brought to you by the Washington State School for the Blind White Cane Technique • Properly hold your cane with your cane grip, your index finger out – just like you would to shake hands.
Brought to you by the Washington State School for the Blind The Two Point Touch • Move your cane in front of you from right to left, shoulder to shoulder. It protects your body and anticipates what’s going to be in front of you.

Brought to you by the Washington State School for the Blind Crossing the Street • Listen for traffic. If it’s quiet, it means no cars are coming and it’s usually safe to cross.
Brought to you by the Washington State School for the Blind Intersecting Sidewalks • To find an intersecting sidewalk, say you are going into a building, you would use the shoreline technique. • After using your 2 point touch technique, transition to the edge to try to find the intersecting sidewalk.
