Prepositional Phrases • Prepositional phrases: • Start with a preposition • Sometimes contain adjectives • Contain an object (noun or pronoun) at the end • Examples: • You can call (on Monday). • She wore a dress (with polka dots). • I went shopping (with my best friend).

Prepositional Phrases • A prepositional phraseincludes a noun or pronoun called the object of the preposition (ootp) • Examples: • about the girl • near the shallow river • next to the crying baby • withmy friend
Object of Prepositions (OOTP) • Each preposition is followed by one or more words called the object of the preposition • The OOTP will be a noun, pronoun, or a group of words functioning as a noun • How do you locate the OOTP? • Ask what? after the preposition • Our house would be white with tall trees around it. • All of the sandwiches are served with pickles. • We sat on the rocks by the river.
