Background • GSMA TWG and EICTA IPC CCIG supported by ARIB & GSMNA founded a forum for IMEI allocation matters • Agreed that IMEI system is vital for all mobile terminals whatever standard • Interim measure to allocate IMEI through BABT - funded by GSM A – satisfactory interim solution • For the future an agreement on some topics still outstanding, however, on a good track as solutions are already visible JEM 20020211-007

  3. Objectives • Open, fair, transparent:ITU governing body with administration through regional bodies like BABT • Globally appliedGSM and UMTS confirmed plus 3G in Japan agreed with DoCoMo. Discuss with 3GPP2 • Future proof- IMEI format to be adopted so current logistics procedures for operators and manufacturers do not need to be changed • Sufficient number blocks for the foreseeable future to cover all types of 3G equipment incl 3G enabled PDA & PCs JEM 20020211-007
