  6. The BIG Picture: (Preparing to write your lesson plan) • Lesson planning is an iterative process!!! • Formulate the MAIN Theme(s) for the three lessons. (What is the main point you are teaching?) • This ties the three lessons together …Look in the front of your resource books! Consider a Venn Diagram or some other representation.

  7. What about objectives? • Consider the lesson objectives on the below. What do you think of each? Which are most useful for teachers? • Students will learn the new material from the lab • Students will be able to draw and label a diagram of a closed circuit • Students will understand circuits • Students will be able to explain the difference between a closed and open circuit

  8. Objectives • What makes a good performance objective? • What’s a SWBAT ? • This is what the students will DO to build the concept • Use “Power” verbs. Take a look at Handout. • - Performance Objectives / Power Verbs • Avoid using terms that are not measurable.

Your TASKS • With your partner: read the assigned lessons from your Teacher’s Guide then focus on Lesson/Activity 1 • Write 1 -2 objectives along with an assessment/question for each objective. • Share your objectives with the other group at your table for feedback. Be ready to share • Is it clear, measureable, able to be accomplished in the time you have?

  10. What is the 5E? • Engage: get student interested • Explore: students get to explore their own ideas • Explain: students explain their ideas/ solutions. Vocabulary – teacher records and clarifies • Elaborate: going further • Evaluate: checking for student understanding throughout

  14. Let’s start with: Exploration Focus on what this really looks like and how you will structure. How will you provide the students with opportunities to EXPLORE their own ideas about the topic? Questions, questions, questions…..

For Next Time • Bring lesson ideas to class – start working on your LP for T1 • Consider sending a thank you after your observation • Be prepared to share some of your observations • If you need help on LP come to office hours, send us an email, or work with Peer Mentors.
