  2. Introduction of instructor Name: Affiliation: Position: Expert Field: Brief History: Other:

  3. Purpose of Practice Trainees recognize problems with the final disposal sites of your home country and develop capability to evaluate the current status.

  4. Practice Details The problems with final disposal sites in your country are brainstormed using CBS (Card Brain Storming) method where the cards submitted are used to perform severity analysis and keyword classification.

  5. Proceeding of practice 1.Description of CBS method 2.Brainstorming of problems using the CBS method 3.Severity analysis 4. Keyword classification 5. Analysis results - presenter review

  6. CBS (Card Brain Storming) Method is ・ Brainstorming is a divergence conceptual method for effectively bringing forth ideas. ・CBS is an improved method that can be applied in groups that do not have experience with brainstorming and enables all participants to voice their ideas. ・ Cards upon which opinions are written can be used for analysis immediately.

  7. How is the CBS Method Performed? ・ Rules: there are some general rules to enable collection of as many opinions as possible : 1. Do not directly criticize opinions of others. 2. Unusual ideas are welcome. 3. Focus on quantity not quality. 4. Recognize generation of new opinions using others opinions. 5. Record a signal opinion clearly per card. 6. Cards are shared anonymously.

  8. Preparation Items 1)A5 size paper: Back of paper that has already been used can be used Number of sheets needed 2) Felt tip pens: One for each participant 3) Envelope: envelopes that have already been used can be used, required number of envelopes 4) Stapler: one for each group 5) Tables and chairs based on the number of participants

  10. Procedure for CBS method - Step 1: Arrange the desks and chairs in a circle, square, or U shape with plenty of room and have the participants sit down. - Step 2: Distribute the pens and paper prepared beforehand. - Step 3: Explain the rules for proceeding with CBS. - Step 4: Allow the participants to write down opinions freely for 10 to 15 minutes. If the movement of the participants pens reduces somewhat, proceed to the next step. Before proceeding to the next step, the facilitator should explain that if someone thinks of something during the next step they can write the opinion down. - Step 5: Have each participant, one at a time, state one opinion in a clear voice while they submit it. - Step 6: Continue having opinions stated and submitted in this manner, skipping those whose supply of opinions has depleted, until all opinions have been submitted.

  13. Development for CBS method ・The cards submitted can be used in the following type of analysis. 1) Organized by keyword 2) Organized by importance, severity etc. 3) Organized by cause and effect relationships 4) Organized sequentially etc. In the waste material management industry, in general analysis is based on 1) and 2) above .

  14. Development Procedure for CBS method -Step 7: Have participants freely propose keywords to organize opinions. -Step 8: The facilitator writes the suggested keywords on the blackboard and keywords are collected through the free discussion of the participants. -Step 9: The facilitator writes selected keywords one on each envelope. -Step 10: The facilitator lines up the envelopes on the floor. -Step 11: Have each of the participants pick up an equivalent number of cards and line up the cards in front of the envelope that has a related keyword written on it. -Step 12: After lining up the cards, have the participants review for non-applicable cards, remove these and place the others in the envelopes. -Step 13: Next, have the participants line up the cards in order of severity based on free discussion.

  17. Brainstorming of Problems with the Final Disposal Sites in Your Country Start brainstorming of problems using the CBS method. Provide each of the trainees with paper for cards and pens. Are you ready to go. If prepared, write as many problems as you can think of on cards for 15 minutes. As explained previously, write only one problem on each card.

  18. Brainstorming of Problems with the Final Disposal Sites in Your Country If time runs out or at the time writing on cards is basically finished, have each person read a problem they wrote on a card, one at a time. Have the cards read in order in one direction from the start. Submit opinions that are the same at the same time and staple the cards together. Continue this until all of the cards have been submitted.

  19. Severity Analyses of Problems The problems submitted are analyzed using the CBS cards. Analysis is performed by lining up the cards in order of severity. Discuss freely among trainees in moving forward with the analysis. Note, write the order decided upon on the cards using a red or blue felt tip pen. The analysis results are input in order of severity in a PPT and presented by a representative.

  21. Problem Severity Analysis Table Representatives please present the problems starting with the highest severity using PPT.

  22. Keyword Classification 1. Submitting of keyword proposals (Free discussion) 2. Keyword selection 3. Preparation of keyword envelopes 4.CBS card classification exercise

  23. Keyword Classification As the result of investigation the words that are noted on the whiteboard are selected as the keywords. Write these on envelopes using a red pen. Write one keyword on each envelope. Line up envelopes that have keywords on them on the floor or on a large table.

  24. Keyword Classification Trainees each pick up the same number of CBS cards and line them up in front of envelopes with related keywords written on them. After finishing lining up the keywords, review them for any unsuitable items, remove the unsuitable items and put the rest in the envelopes. Line up the cards that were removed in an arbitrary location. The problems submitted during this training will be collected, entered into a table and passed out before the "Practice: Reorganization of Problems of Final Disposal Sites for your Country".
