  1. 5th Grade Trip Chattanooga March 27-28, 2013

  2. The Coach – don’t call it a bus • Coach: The motorcoach is equipped with a rest room facility for emergencies and a VCR or DVD player with color monitors for watching chaperone approved videos. The group is responsible for bring their own videos. Passengers are expected to follow the safely instructions of the driver and to not interfere with the operation of or cause physical damage to the coach. Each passenger is permitted to take one large piece of luggage which will be stored in the luggage compartment under the motorcoach. You may also take along a smaller bag which can be stored under your seat or in the overhead luggage compartment inside the coach. You will be responsible for handling your entire luggage.

  3. What to pack • Clothing: Clothing suitable for school will be appropriate on the days of the tour. Some events may take place outdoors; please consult local weather prior to departure and instruct passengers to wear outer clothing and shoes appropriate for the climate/location. Passengers may wish to bring a light jacket or sweater or light fleece blanket to help regulate their temperature on the motorcoach.

  4. This weeks weather in Chattanooga • 40’s-50’s • We will be outdoors (and on top of a mountain) most of the trip, so be prepared! • Our evening in Chattanooga is outdoors on a boat – the nighttime temperatures are COLD!!!

  5. Money • Spending Money: A good rule of thumb is $15.00 to $20.00 per person per day. • All meals are included on your trip.

  6. Electronics Policy • Policies. Music devices (DS’s, iPods, tablets, etc) may not be used without headphones. Passengers are responsible for securing and retrieving all personal belongings brought on the tour. You may use these on the bus only. • Movies watched on personal devices must be G or PG. • Please do not bring a laptop. • No texting or IntsaGramming or any form of social media (Facebook, etc.) .Phones are only for emergencies, contacting parents • No phones or electronic devices while on a tour unless you are using it as a camera • If you do not have a cell phone, please have a parent cell phone number for the teacher chaperones where your parent can be reached.

  7. Departure • Be at the school on Wednesday, March 27th by 5:30AM • The bus will leave PROMPTLY at 5:45 Parent chaperones: You may leave your car here (at your own risk). Please park in the visitor parking on the side near the 5th grade classrooms.

  8. Day One • 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM – Stop for lunch • 1:15 – 2:20– Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum Board the “Missionary Ridge Local” at Grand Junction Station and explore one of the original railroad lines in Chattanooga, crossing four bridges and passing through pre-Civil War Missionary Ridge Tunnel, which was completed in 1858. See the locomotive rotate on a turntable and participate in a tour into the railroad restoration shop.

Day One cont. • 3:30-6:00 - Tennessee Aquarium The top-rated aquarium in America offers a journey through two buildings loaded with things to do and engaging experiences on Chattanooga’s beautiful downtown riverfront. River Journey is the original Aquarium building and features stunning freshwater creatures and habitats from the Southeast and from around the world. Ocean Journey takes visitors beneath the waves where 10-foot sharks, fierce barracuda and graceful stingrays glide through amazing coral formations.

  10. 6:30-9PM - Chattanooga Riverboat Company Dinner Cruise Day One cont. Dine aboard the Southern Belle Riverboat while floating down the Tennessee River. This narrated dinner cruise provides a fun way to learn about Chattanooga and its rich history, from the Civil War, to the Cherokee Indians, from water transportation to river life, to today’s new city front!

  11. The end of Day One!!! • 9:30 PM - Hampton Inn & Suites Chattanooga (Check-In) 400 Chestnut Street Chattanooga, TN Phone: 423-693-0500 Everyone in their rooms! GO TO BED!! RIGHT AWAY! All electronic devices turned off by 9:31 PM. Note: Chaperones get first dibs on the bathroom.

  12. DAY TWO: Breakfast • Breakfast Times will be Staggered by Bus # • 7:00 AM - Bus 1 Breakfast • 7:30 AM - Bus 2 Breakfast • 8:00 AM - Bus 3 Breakfast

Day Two cont. • 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM • Lookout Mountain Attractions • Attractions will be visited in rotation Lookout Mountain is the perfect destination for out of the ordinary experiences and amazing natural beauty. Lookout Mountain Attractions include three top rated world famous natural attractions that showcase the natural beauty of Lookout Mountain and views of the Chattanooga Valley

  15. Rock City • Rock City will amaze you...it's in our nature! Located atop Lookout Mountain, just 6 miles from downtown Chattanooga, Rock City is a true marvel of nature featuring massive ancient rock formations, and breathtaking "See 7 States" panoramic views. Take an unforgettable journey along the Enchanted Trail where each step reveals natural beauty and wonders along the woodland path. Experience the magic of Fairyland Caverns and Mother Goose Village, visit one of our regional gift shops. • Lunch at Rock City Pavilion is included

  16. Ruby Falls • Located inside Lookout Mountain, we will get to see the remarkable beauty of Ruby Falls- America's deepest cave and largest underground waterfall accessible to the public. On the way to the waterfall, we will get a chance to see the many geological wonders located throughout the cave.

  17. Incline Railway • Known as “America’s Most Amazing Mile,” The Incline’s trolley-style cars climb through the natural beauty surrounding historic Lookout Mountain at a breathtaking 72.7% grade – straight up!   • Sit back, relax and enjoy the scenic views of the mountains and valleys from the observation windows on the train as well as the panoramic views from the observation tower at The Incline’s top station. 

  18. Point Park and the Battles for Chattanooga • This Electric Map & Museum presentation of Chattanooga's Civil War history features 5,000 miniature soldiers, 650 lights, sound effects and exceptional details of the major battles which were fought here in November of 1863. • Students will hear and see Chattanooga's Battle Above the Clouds and Sherman's assault on Missionary Ridge before his historic March To the Sea.

  19. Day Two - End • 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM • Dinner at Golden Corral Kennesaw, GA This meal is paid for • 10:00 PM – Arrive home at Sterling School
