Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. "(Ephesians 6:13-17) - God’s Provisions - Part 1

  7. The Belt of Truth • “Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth…"(Ephesians 6:14) • In Paul’s day, soldiers wore a tunic that had holes for the head and arms, which hung low and loose. When they were about to fight, they would take the four corners of the tunic so that they were able to freely move and so the enemy could not grab hold of the tunic and pull them down. To slacken the belt was to go ‘off duty’. Essential part of armor - God’s Provisions - Part 1

Truth From God Before Salvation After Salvation "And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God." (2 Corinthians 4:3-4) "I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it" (1 John 2:21) - God’s Provisions - Part 1

  13. The Breastplate of Righteousness • “having put on the breastplate of righteousness…” • The "breastplate" (thorax) covered the body from the neck to the thighs. Polybius tells us that it was known as a heart-protector. Usually it was made of bronze but the more affluent officers wore a coat of chain mail. The front piece was strictly the breastplate, but a back piece was commonly worn as well. - God’s Provisions - Part 1

  16. Righteousness From God Before Salvation After Salvation “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness," (Romans 1:18) "For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ." The Shoes of Peace • “having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace …"(Ephesians 6:15) • The Roman soldier wore sandals which were bound by throngs over the instep and around the ankle, and the soles were thickly studded with nails. This would give him a firm footing in case of attack. - God’s Provisions - Part 1

  21. What Peace? The shoes of peace do not speak of the spreading of the gospel, for Christians are pictured in vv. 10-16 as standing, not advancing. Instead this refers to a believer’s stability or surefootedness from the gospel which gives him peace so he can stand in the battle. - God’s Provisions - Part 1

Peace with God Before Salvation After Salvation “He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." (Hebrews 10:14) - God’s Provisions - Part 1

  23. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.“ (Philippians 4:6-7) Ensure that you test everything against the Word of God and constantly pray to be filled with the Spirit of truth so discernment will be yours in everything. "But examine everything carefully“ (1 Thessalonians 5:21) "But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh… But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,“ (Galatians 5:22) - God’s Provisions - Part 1
