Overview • Student run, week long gadgeting/hacking competition • Form teams of 2-4 students (at least one ECE major) • Come up with a project idea • If your project can hurt others, don’t build it! • If your project is not legal, don’t build it! • If your project may be frowned upon by Andrew Carnegie, CMU administration, or other students, don’t build it! • Develop parts list • On a budget (~$250 in the past)

Overview (Contd.) • Submit application to the officers • We give you feedback, suggest additional parts, design modifications etc. • Parts will arrive over winter break • Pick up parts Saturday before Spring classes start • Build week! • Hack support • Tech talks (Microsoft, Raytheon, TI, ...) • Demo day – Friday • Post exhibition dinner with sponsors

Important Dates • Wednesday, 09/24 – Build18 Kickoff (today!) • Tutorials • Saturday, 10/11 – Tutorial #1 (Arduino, TI Launchpad) • Saturday, 10/25 – Tutorial #2 (Soldering) • Sunday, 10/26 – Tutorial #3 (Microsoft Kinect Hacking) • Saturday, 11/08 – Tutorial #4 (Open CV) • Saturday, 11/15 – Tutorial #5 (Project Brainstorming) • Deadlines • Saturday, 11/15 - Project Proposals due • Saturday, 11/22 - we’ll have feedback for you • Saturday, 12/29 - Final parts list deadline • Saturday, 1/10 - Friday, 1/16 - Build Week!

Contact the officer mailing list • Wiki deadline will be towards the end of November • Email officers when wiki information is finalized • You will then receive further instructions • Parts deadline will be in early December
