  2. The Cause, • Human beings create tons of domestic waste every day, so many landfills were formed such as Tseung Kwan O (將軍澳) landfill site and Ngau Chi Wan(牛池灣) landfill site.

  3. The Cause, • Some people litter or spit on the street. • Agricultural activities produce waste because the farmers used pesticides to kill bacteria in crops. It pollute the land when they are washed into the soil.

  4. The Effects, • The filling of rubbish into the landfill sites cause land pollution. • The landfill sites store a lot of rubbish and put them together, some may through chemical reaction to create some harmful gases. • Also, after the landfill was full and became a flat land, the land use of this land limited, it can only use for recreation so it may lost it’s own value.

  5. The Effects, • People is polluting the land when they are littering and spitting. It affect the image of Hong Kong . Also, the things spitted by those people may spread some diseases.

  6. The Effects, • When the pesticides washed into the soil, land was polluted. The farmland cannot farm for a long period of time.

  7. Existing Measure, • The government re-plan to burn the rubbish by incineratorto replace filling rubbish to landfills. • By penalty: People who throw rubbish on the street may pay $1500 for fine.

  8. Existing Measure, • By education: The government educate people to recycle the rubbish by advertisement.

  9. Existing Measure, • The government helped some farmers in the New Territories to promote organic farming to reduce land pollution. • The government plan to charge people who throw rubbish to the landfills.

  10. Further Suggestions, • The only way to reduce land pollution is to reduce the need of landfills. To reduce the need of landfills, we need to reduce the creation of rubbish: • We can use the paper on both sides. • The government may increase the penalty. • We can reuse the plastic bottles. • Set up laws to limit the creation of rubbish. • We can use recycle bag to replace plastic bag.
