  3. Our objective is to review the Creighton School District Career Ladder Program requirements and guidelines for 2012-2013. Presentation Objectives

  4. Evaluation of Teacher Performance with qualified evaluators • Evaluation of Pupil Progress (SAP) • Higher Level Instructional Responsibilities (HLR) Compliance with State Law

  5. SAP competencies, rubric and template are aligned • SAP for Group B Teachers – will qualify for placement Changes for 2012-2013

Compliance with state law • Teachers apply and qualify EVERY year • Four Level Structure • Internship (year one only) • Residency (year three +) • Experienced (year four+) • Career (year six+) • Three step structure • (Step I [base], Step II, Step III) Review Career Ladder Structure - Levels & Steps

  7. Note: New teachers can no longer move onto Career Ladder as per HB 2011 but must be “prepared” for career ladder.

  8. Based on most recent (2011-2012 school year) SES Level I ratings • SES Level II can be used to qualify only at the “Career” Level • Teachers on SES Level II must re-qualify on the SES Level I every 3rd year to continue on Career Ladder. Qualification for Movement

  9. Number of allowable “developing” on the SES Level I decreases at higher levels

  10. No “NEW” Participants in Career Ladder Program HB 2011 “As per session law, for FY 2010…limit the program only to teachers who participated in the prior year.” What constitutes “PARTICIPATION” • Teachers who qualified (earned an addendum) in 2011-2012 • Teachers who have been on Career Ladder or participated (eg. did not complete process [documentation or SAP] or did not qualify) within the last three years (in-active status) • Teachers returning to the classroom from a coaching position or other stipend, non-teaching role who have previously been on Career Ladder • Teachers with reciprocity from another Career Ladder district

Compliance with the law • All new teachers are evaluated for CL • Minimum of one evaluation consisting of both announced and unannounced observations • Training for inter-rater reliability • Multiple qualified evaluators • Higher levels of instructional criteria for higher levels of the ladder Teacher Performance (EVALUATION)

Internship • SES observations Fall & Spring (site administration) • Informals (unannounced) by CL & site • Residency (year 3 +) • SES Level I observations Fall & Spring (site administration) • Formal observation* by Career Ladder Evaluator (announced) • Informal observations (unannounced) CL & site • FOCUS: Classroom Management and Basic Instructional Skills Evaluating Teacher Performance *can be done concurrently with Spring SES

Experienced (year four+) • SES LEVEL I annual observation (site administration) • Must be evaluated on the SES Level I at “Experienced” • Formal observation (Career Ladder) • May be optional (based on informals & principal recommendations) • Informal observations (CL and site administration) • FOCUS: Advanced Instructional Skills and beginning use of Critical Thinking Skills Evaluating Teacher Performance

Career Level (year six+) • SES Annual Observation Level I or Level II* (site administration) • Informal Observations (CL and site administration) • Formal Observation by Career Ladder Evaluator • If needed based on informals and Principal recommendations • FOCUS: Critical Thinking Skills Evaluating Teacher Performance *Re-qualify every 3rd year

Lesson plans for formal observations • May use SES plan template • Must be a 2-3 day plan • Lesson plans are submitted FIVE (5) days prior to your pre-conference date • Residency & Experienced Levels • Remember, understand, apply • at least to apply level on observation date • Career Level • Analyze, evaluate, create • at least to analyze level on observation date

Compliance with state law • Higher levels of pupil progress for higher levels of the ladder • Appropriate to the teacher’s individual circumstances • Plan and summative evaluated by peer evaluator(s) and/or CL administrators • Reviewed at beginning, middle and end of year • Based on ten (10) competencies • May be used for SES Level II (pending principal approval) Student Achievement Plan (SAP)

Must document student growth for at least 51% of the school year • Maximum of 40 points can be earned • The number of points needed varies based on CL levels • Ten (10) competencies (page 36-44 Handbook) • #1-5 completed for the planning of the SAP • #6 completed for mid-study reflection • #7-10 completed for the summative/reflection statement • Address ALL descriptors for scoring! (even if you don’t need all the points!) SAP Key Points

  19. Each competency is scored on 0-4 Rubric • See pages 45-48

  20. SAP planning and mid-study may be resubmitted following feedback • Must score at least a minimum of 2 on all 10 competencies • SAP summative is final; no resubmits

  21. SAP problem areas to address! • Format – double spaced, min. size 12pt. Font • Proofreading for grammatical and statistical errors • Alignment between planning section, mid-study and summative sections (particularly in the area of assessment) • More than one goal or area of focus (example: math fluency and problem solving) • Too many student samples (see new template/rubric) • Not addressing ALL of the descriptors or not writing directly to the descriptor (for ease of reading/scoring) • Collaborative plans MUST follow collaborative guidelines

  22. STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT PLAN Compilation of Exemplar Compentencies • A sincere THANKS to those who willingly shared their plans with all CL participants! • Student Achievement Plans (SAPs) samples can be found on-line at the CL website.

HLR clarifications • All 25 or 50 hours may come from the leadership category at the Career Level • Completed logs with signature must be received on the following dates • December 17, 2012 (hours completed 1st semester) • May 13, 2013 (hours completed 2nd semester) • June 10, 2013 (hours completed during summer)

Activities do not have to be PRE approved if they come off of the “Approved HLR Activities Menu” list • Activities may be added throughout the year as they become available (send Pre-Approval form if needed) • Teachers cannot be PAID and receive credit for HLR (this includes stipends and hourly pay) • Must occur OUTSIDE of the regular school day (student day - 7:30 am to 3:05 pm) Higher Levels of Instructional Responsibility (HLR)
