  2. Let’s Talk • Have you ever set a goal for yourself before? • What are some short-term goals you have set for yourself right now? • Agree or Disagree: It is better to set lower goals than to risk failure by setting higher ones. Why?

  3. Keep Those Thinking Caps On… • What is the difference between a wish and a goal? • How do you decide what your goals are? • Have you ever set a goal that was unrealistic? • What happened? • What have you learned?

  4. Brain Power! • Have you ever gone out on a limb and risked failure in order to achieve a bigger goal? • Are you glad you took that risk?

  5. Just Keep Thinking…Just Keep Thinking… • What is the difference between failing and being a failure? • If you don’t accomplish all your goals, does that make you a failure? • What are some good ways to deal with disappointments?

  6. What is a Goal? • It has to be important to you personally. • It has to be within your power to make it happen through your own actions. • It has to be something you have a reasonable chance of achieving. • It must be clearly defined and have a specific plan of action.

  7. Define the Goal • What is it that you want to accomplish? • Ex: By the end of the first quarter, I will achieve a grade of 85% or higher.

  8. Outline the Steps Needed to Achieve Your Goal • Ex: • 1. I will come to class everyday. • 2. I will participate in class and complete all class assignments. • 3. I will ask questions when I do not understand something.

  9. Consider Possible Roadblocks and Ways of Dealing with Them • Some possible roadblocks that might affect my goals are… • To overcome these obstacles, I will…

  10. Setting Deadlines • I will complete my AA assignments by the end of the period each day…

  11. Let’s Practice… • As a class, we are going to set some group goals. • First let’s set a goal to achieve a certain class average score at the end of each quarter. • How can we accomplish this? • Should we reward ourselves for achieving such a goal?
