  2. Seedbed Preparation • Primary tillage – rip, disc, laser level if needed • Secondary tillage – land plane, seed bed prep, pre-emergent herbicides. • Fertilizer – after soil samples apply as needed. • Fumigation – Prior to planting.

  3. Planting • Start in March • Finish in September – Fresh Market • Plant spacing – single row every 8” and double row every 16” • Row spacing – personal preference, single row or double row, 66” to 80” • Seed or transplants – seed at 1/3 lb per acre. • Determinant or Nondeterminat

  4. Fertilization • Broadcast • Water • Side dress • Nitrogen = 175 • Phosphorus = 120 • Potassium = 175

  5. Cultivation • Hand or Mechanical • When plants are young • Normally 2 times during the season.

  6. Thinning • If planted by seed.

  7. Irrigation • Tomato’s take 2 ½ to 3 acre feet of water on a flood system. • They can take 3 to 3 ½ acre feet on a drip system. • Drip is buried 14” below ground and can last up to 5 years. • Irrigate every 8 to 10 days as the plants needs the water
