  2. MITHIBAI COLLEGE • Mithibai College, established in 1969, is the progeny of Shri Vile Parle KelavaniMandal (SVKM), located in the heart of Mumbai in Vile Parle (West.) Mithibai College, with the strength of 10,000 students from various streams, stands tall as one of the largest colleges in Asia. • MithibaiCollege symbolizes the perfect blend of academic excellence and high accolades in extracurricular activities, throughout the country and abroad. Academically, it has been continually producing board and university rankers and able corporate personnel, established artists like KareenaKapoor Khan, ShahidKapoor, AshutoshGowarikar and many television and theatre personalities exemplify Mithibai’sconducive atmosphere to performing arts. Our students have won laurels at intercollegiate, state and national level. • MithibaiCollege has a state of the art campus with student friendly infrastructural advancements, converging seven neighbouring SVKM institutes. GNARITAS Gnaritas, a Latin term for ‘knowledge’, was adopted by Mithibai-ites in 2012 for naming an unconventional intercollegiate festival. Combining economics and business to form a ‘Busineconomics’festival, Mithibai has taken the initiative to further academic excellence via Gnaritas. • Gnaritas is a culmination of economics and business related events alongside current affairs and fun events, focusing primarily on helping students develop an enriched and aware personality by promising accessibility through participation. In its inception year, Gnaritas attracted 30 different colleges and amassed members numbering to the strength of 200. The Soaring Hawk, Gnaritas' mascot, takes off again for the fourth time in the last week of August 2014 with the theme ‘Political Economy’ and an assemblage of events, games, seminars and a heart-warming hospitality for all our guests.

  3. POLITICAL ECONOMY • The political scenario of a nation plays catalytic role in shaping up the economy. With this perspective, the foundation for the study of Political Economy was established. Political Economy, in itself, is a broad subject, and demands intense analysis. • Politics can affect how the economy is: it can hurt it or help it. This depends on the policies, regulations and laws in place. For instance, taxation policies affect business costs i.e. a rise in corporation tax has the same effect as an increase in costs. Businesses can pass some of this tax on to consumers by way of higher prices. • With the theme “Political Economy”, Gnaritas 2014 aspires to raise awareness among the students about the interspersed link between politics and economics; the way they influence each other and other disciplines around, which is seldom discussed. Thus, Gnaritas 2014 aims to create an understanding of how laws, regulations and policies effect not only the economy but also other disciplines under the sphere of political economy. • With this year’s unparalleled theme, Gnaritas 2014, as always, promises to be an interesting affair.

  4. EVENTS • BUSINECONOMICS: Think, Analyse, Plan, and Action are quite the fourfold essence of the two vast and interlocked concepts of Business and Economics. Thus, Gnaritas brings to you the portmanteau of “Busineconomics”, a category under the helm of which we devise events involving the subject matter of Business and the fundamentals of Economics. The cycle of business and the theoretical and practical aspects of the two need much cognizance. Hence, with a view to promote this significant blend, we propose the following events: 1. GNARITAS STOCK EXCHANGE GSE is a perfect simulation of a Traditional Stock Market outcry. Participants will be tested on their trading skills related to the stock market scenario. The aim is to earn maximum profit. 2. W.T.O MINISTERIAL CONFERENCE This works on the basis of a model World Trade Organization. Each participant is allotted a country and shall debate on the topics to come to a consensus. The Ministerial Conferences can take decisions on all matters under any of the multilateral trade agreements. 3. PERENNIAL PLOY The path of democracy is one that has been heavily traded, yet rarely completed in its entirety at the end of which lays hope for an entire nation. Your judgment is all you have to be hailed a visionary, or labelled a mercenary.

  5. B) CURRENT AFFAIRS & GENERAL KNOWLEDGE: Raising global awareness asserts great importance in the current scenario. The shift of paradigm has changed the way things are being carried out world over. This cannot be better illustrated than the currently developing extensiveness of economics which has shown its applications in the worldly politics, social dynamics, resource management, environmental protection, business and so on. This brings us to the second event category which includes the following events: 1. VOICE THE ISSUE It is a formal group discussion and involves all rules pertaining to the same. Topics for the discussion will include, but not be restricted to, current affairs. The topics for the discussion will be disclosed on the spot. 2. KNOW IT ALL This is a quiz event where emphasis is laid on the importance of a personality equipped with worldly awareness. Questions may be asked on topics ranging from economics to current affairs to business to general awareness and politics. 3. THE GREAT INDIAN TAMASHA This is a Mock Indian Parliament based event. Participants will be divided into proposition and opposition parties and will be given a crisis to solve in order to reach a viable solution. 4. KHURSI KI DAUD With the recent past elections, this event puts you in the shoes of a Prime Ministerial Candidate.

  6. C) FUN: When was the last you heard Economics and Fun in the same sentence? Never? We’re here to change that with a host of events that bring out the fun aspect from an economic point of view, we present to you the third event category which includes the following events: 1. ACE THE RACE It is a treasure hunt event which includes several pit stops to be completed in a specified timeframe. At every pit stop, the team needs to go through either a physical or a mental task before receiving their next clue. The top three teams that make it to the final spot - win. 2. THE ASLI PICTURE This is a street play event. Participants have to choose their topic based on the theme ‘Political Economy’and thus present a play. 3. BLOW YOUR BRAINS OUT This is a strategy based event. The participants will be tested on their logical ability and analytical skills with the help of puzzles, riddles, mind games, etc. Participating colleges- • H.R.
